489 black and white prints (4X5) taken by Philadelphia photographer, Bernie Cleff (1927- , in coordination with the 1987 Historic District certification for Society Hill. Collection also includes 35 mm bw negatives. Cleff was one of the most sucessful freelance photographers in Philadelphia. He specialized in aerial, editorial, corporate, advertising and architectural photography. His work appeared in Fortune, Business Week, Venture, NY Times Sunday Magazine, Smithsonian, AIA Journal and many other periodicals and books. His major works include "Sculpture of a City: Philadelphia's Treasures in Bronze and Stone; The Cape May Handbook; Daniel Chester French-An American Sculptor; Historic Rittenhouse-A Philadelphia Neighborhood" After service in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Philadelphia College of Art in 1950. He is a life member of the American Society of Media Photographers.
