Hours: Monday-Friday, 1:00-4:45 p.m. Preliminary reference interview strongly recommended as substantial portions of some collections are stored. Contact: Mary Daniels (Librarian, Special Collection), Hugh Wilburn (Director) CollectionsFocus: international, in the areas of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. Consists of: drawings, plans, manuscript materials, job files, photographs, slides and ephemera. The collections of primary materials are supplemented by a rare book collection of some 12.000 titles also located in the Special Collection Department. Strengths: Materials documenting International Modernism, 19th-20th century landscape design. Among the more notable collections are The Le Corbusier Research Collection, The Ferrari-Hardoy Archive, The Edward Larrabee Barnes Collection, The Hugh Stubbins Archive and The Work of Ulrich Franzen. Library¿s catalogue accessible on-line; in-house inventories available in repository. In addition to on-site photocopying and copy-stand facilities; arrangements can be made for professional photographic work and the reprographic of large-scale items. Institutions has a Collections Conservator.
Library HoldingsThe general collections of the Frances Loeb Library include some 250.000 titles in architecture, landscape design and urban design; the Library currently receives ca. 1300 periodicals. The Library¿s Visual Resources Department includes maps, plans, vintage photographs, video¿s, films and more than 200.000 slides in its holdings.
ExhibitionsExhibitions are mounted within the Department and in the Gallery of the Harvard Design School; materials are also available for loan.
PublicationsThe Harvard Design School issues a variety of publications; selected collection inventories are also available.
