Collections

Focus: national. Consists of: architectural drawings, both individual drawings and complete archives; documents/correspondence; models; building fragments; vintage photographs; slides; ephemera. Strengths: the archives of William Chalfant; of the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company; and of the interior design firm of Ernest L. Brothers, Inc. Photo archives of the Wurts Bros. firm (architectural photographers). Collection accessible through inventories (some collections are inventoried). Drawings can be reproduced. Institution does not have a conservation laboratory.

Library Holdings

Holdings: some 1200 volumes focusing on American architecture and design. It is used by the staff only.

Exhibitions

Institution organizes exhibitions. Permanent exhibitions: "The Pension Building"; "Washington: Symbol and City." Exhibitions travel.
